Doing nice things for myself

Painfree! I feel absolutely wonderful after getting a Thai massage. I
once had a Swedish oil massage at the same place, and while it worked
it was also very painful and I felt self-conscious about being mostly
naked with a stranger, and about my dermatitis.
This week I've been sleeping with my head and upper body elevated to
avoid congestion (I have a cold) and what with the neck pain that's
given me I've been fantasizing vividly about having a massage at that
place again, remembering how well it worked.
I learned from youtube how a Thai massage is received wearing
loose-fitting clothing, and how the therapist uses pressure instead of
rubbing to loosen knots, and now I'm so glad I went for it, and knew
how to dress for it.
Something else nice I did for myself was put up my sun lamp. I bought
it years ago, but avoided using it because one of the tubes flickered
in a way that gave me a headache. Well, I already had a crushing
headache this morning (before my wonderful massage!) and the winter
doldrums are hitting me hard, so I decided to give it a try anyway.
Turns out, the flickering stops after a few minutes, and the light is
absolutely marvelous. With my eyes closed, it looks just like real
sunlight. I should buy a timer so it can wake me up in the mornings,
because I managed to hit snooze a couple of times before remembering I
should switch on the lamp.
And finally, I'm taking small steps toward eating well again. A few
years ago, when I first seriously started trying to get fertility
treatment, I lost a lot of weight changing my diet and exercise habits
- not in a starve myself and force myself to work hard way, just in a
take the time to take care of me way, but what with work related
stress and lack of free time (which is also what put my baby plans on
hold) I fell back in the habit of convenience foods that make me
lethargic and moody and a lack of exercise and fresh air.
Well, it's high time I go back to being good to myself, instead of
putting work first! I bought a huge jar of caffeine-free coffee, and
the fridge is full of vegetables which right now I'm honestly too
tired to want to deal with, but which I fully intend to eat. I'm
getting off the carbs and caffeine cycle, one small habit at a time.
